Safety Culture Ladder level 4
The C of Culture — that is why we are proud of SCL Level 4
We recently achieved Safety Culture Ladder 4 with our timber construction company.
There are many initiatives to make construction safer: VCA, instructional videos, booklets, posters, toolbox meetings.
But ultimately, it is about 'attitude': the attitude someone intrinsically has towards safety. And that should be ingrained in an organization's core values, so that it is a matter of course. In other words: it is about corporate culture.
You do not create a culture with an instructional video or a one-day course. Culture must grow, day after day, year after year. Ultimately, this results in a shared sense of belonging with which employees feel connected. Connected to the company and to each other, with norms and values that are developed along the way and shared with one another. By working together, having lunch together, experiencing success and disappointment together, or going on a canoe trip together. If the work is carried out primarily by freelancers, it is virtually impossible to transfer a company's culture to a temporary team. And certainly when it comes to working safely. That is why we are proud that at Hamlet we work mainly with our own people who are familiar with and contribute to our company culture every day.
